Six Years of Over It, One Night We’ll Never Forget With Summer Walker

Six years ago today, Summer Walker dropped her iconic debut album Over It — and last night, she gave South Africans a performance that felt like a full-circle moment. Just her, her DJ, a ridiculously talented guitarist, and two dancers who brought the whole stage to life.

Rocking the Daisies really delivered. Cape Town showed up in full force to celebrate both the anniversary of Over It and Summer’s unforgettable set. For a lot of fans, this album was the soundtrack to their heartbreaks — though, if I’m being honest, I was usually the one doing the heartbreaking.

After the show, I caught up with a few fans to hear what Over It meant to them. One woman nailed it:

“That album hit different at 3 a.m. when you’re blocking numbers. And as for the performance, Summer Walker is phenomenal.”

That’s when I realised — she didn’t just give us a show, she gave us a whole experience.

The stage design, visuals, and sound made it feel like we were fully inside Summer’s world. And then came the surprise of the night — she brought Shekhinah on stage. Our very own powerhouse stepped up and nearly stole the show with a performance that was all heart and all power. She reminded everyone exactly why local talent needs stages like these.

From the moment Summer stepped on stage, Cape Town was singing along — every lyric, every run. You could tell she was caught off guard (in the best way). It might’ve been her first time seeing that kind of love outside the U.S. But hey, that’s South Africa for you. Our girls stay heartbroken — so of course, they felt her music.

And the love doesn’t stop here. Summer heads to Pretoria this Sunday, where even more fans are ready to sing their hearts out.

But one thing’s for sure: Cape Town rocked.
